Our Team

Our doctors are board-certified dermatologists who in addition to four years of medical school have each completed five years of medical dermatology residency and are considered experts in their field.

Dr. Alim R. Devani, FRCPC, FAAD is a Board-Certified Medical, Surgical, Cosmetic and Laser Dermatologist. He graduated from the University of Alberta Dermatology program in June 2012. He completed his medical school at the University of Alberta in 2007 and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society during his graduating year for his academic accomplishments. He also completed his undergraduate degree with distinction from the University of Calgary in 2003.

During Dr. Devani’s residency in dermatology, he has written research articles, book chapters and has had the fortunate opportunity to give presentations to fellow residents, medical students and other medical practitioners. He also received the 2012 Dermatology Resident of the Year award from his program in his final year of residency and was also selected by the Professional Association of Residents of Alberta as the recipient of the resident of the month award in November 2011.

Board-Certified Medical, Surgical, Cosmetic and Laser Dermatologist with a special interest in:

  • Skin Cancer (melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer)
  • Minor surgery clinic (skin cancer, moles, lipomas, cysts, skin tags and other benign skin growths)
  • Cosmetic Dermatology (acne, acne scars, rosacea, chemical peels, OBAGI blue peel, facial skin restoration and rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, facial discolouration, melasma, sun spots, Botox, Xeomin, dermal fillers such as Juvederm & Restylane, non-invasive body contouring, tattoo removal, and laser resurfacing).
  • Clinical Trials (psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, actinic keratosis, acne)
  • Does NOT see patients with: Leg ulcers, skin allergies (allergic contact dermatitis)

Dr. Andrei Metelitsa, FRCPC, FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist in both Canada and United States and is currently Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary. He graduated from medical school at the University of Alberta, Canada at the age of 23. He further received a 5-year dermatology training at the University of Alberta. After completing his residency, Dr. Metelitsa pursued an additional 1-year fellowship training in Lasers and Cosmetic Surgery in Boston, Massachusetts at SkinCare Physicians under the direction of world-renowned faculty from Harvard and Yale.

His main cosmetic interests include use of non-invasive techniques including fillers and neuromodulators (Botox and Dysport), as well as non-invasive body contouring, tattoo removal, and fractional resurfacing. In fact, he was the first physician in Canada to launch Dysport to cosmetic physicians across the country and is a frequent invited speaker at numerous cosmetic meetings.

His medical interests include skin cancer, acne and psoriasis. Dr. Metelitsa is currently involved in a number of clinical trials investigating new treatments for these conditions.

Dr. Metelitsa is an author of a dermatology book (Stedman’s Illustrated Dictionary of Dermatology Eponyms), as well as more than 40 book chapters and articles. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and events and has been interviewed by multiple newspapers, radio channels, as well as television networks, including CBC, Global and CTV. He also acts as a reviewer for major dermatology journals, including Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, among others.

Dr. Metelitsa has received more than 35 academic, research, leadership and volunteer awards throughout his career. For his leadership, he has been honoured with the prestigious Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Resident Leadership Award, University of Alberta Alumni Award of Excellence, and Canadian Dermatology Association Residents and Fellows Society Resident Teacher Award. He was also chosen to attend the American Academy of Dermatology Leadership Forum for future Leaders.

For his research, Dr. Metelitsa has been awarded the Pacific Dermatology Association Victor Newcomer Young Investigator Award, the North American Clinical Dermatologic Society Research Award, as well as multiple University of Alberta research awards. He continues to be heavily involved in numerous clinical trials investigating novel treatments and devices.

Dr. Metelitsa also volunteers on a number of boards and is a strong advocate for skin cancer prevention. For his efforts, he has been repeatedly inducted into the American Academy of Dermatology Leadership Circle of Volunteerism and has also received the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Dr. Vimal H. Prajapati, MD, FRCPC, FAAD, completed his dermatology residency at the University of Alberta, earning board-certification in Canada and the United States. He then pursued an additional 1-year fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Prajapati has received 20 major awards at the university, provincial, and national level; authored 1 textbook chapter; published 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts in print or electronic format; and presented at several scientific meetings. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary and co-director of the province’s only multidisciplinary clinic for children with juvenile localized scleroderma.

Dr. Elaine Dupuis grew up on the west coast of BC and worked in health policy before graduating from medical school at the University of British Columbia. She completed her five-year formal training in dermatology at the University of Calgary. Dr. Dupuis has published in the top journals in her specialty and has been the recipient of awards and research grants for her collaborative work.

Dr. Dupuis appreciates the art of her specialty and has interests in both medical and aesthetic dermatology. She is dedicated to working with patients to optimize their care. When not in office, Dr. Dupuis enjoys traveling, refining her culinary skills, and spending time with her family and dog Moët.

Pam Mahal-Gill, Laser technician and Image Consultant

Pam has been actively practicing as a laser technician since 2004, after receiving her training in Naples, Florida. Before joining Institute for Skin Advancement in 2010. Previous to working at the Institute for Skin Advancement, Pam owned and operated her laser clinic in Airdrie, Alberta.

At Institute for Skin Advancement, Pam conducts cosmetic consultations and cosmetic treatments, such as Fraxel, BBL/IPL, Q-Switch, Excel-V, Ultherapy Skin Tightening, CoolSculpting, Laser Hair Removal, Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion, Medical Facials, Spectra Carbon Peels, Microneedling and assists the doctors with Ablative CO2 laser treatments. She has advanced training and certifications for all of the treatments she performs and strives for perfection.

Pam is compassionate and committed to providing the highest level of care and ongoing education, resulting in improved skin health for her patients.

Tracy Ferguson, Certified Laser Technician & Image Consultant

Tracy has worked in medical aesthetics since 2010 and currently practices as a Laser Technician and Image Consultant.

Her certifications include Laser Technician, Medical Office Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Microblading Technician.

She has advanced training and is certified in a wide range of services including Tattoo Removal, Laser Hair Removal, Chemical Peels, Coolsculpting, Microneedling, Microblading, and other laser services. Tracy also has been trained in numerous  medical grade skin care lines including ZO SkinHealth, Vivier, and SkinMedica. She is dedicated to continuous learning  to ensure the best treatment plan for every patient and budget. She enjoys being up to date with the latest technologies and trends in cosmetic medicine. Tracy takes great pride in improving the quality of her patient’s skin and enjoys the beautification process to reach a patient’s desired outcome.
